A versatile and dynamic trial attorney, Paul has built a solid track record of litigation success in personal injury, medical malpractice, products liability, wrongful death, brain injury cases, construction litigation, bankruptcy litigation, contract disputes and general commercial litigation. Since 1999, Paul has represented his clients in a diverse array of federal and state court cases and has consistently obtained favorable results for them, whether in the courtroom or at the negotiation table. Paul is a motivated and articulate professional who thrives in the courtroom setting, excels at client rapport, and deftly manages cases from inception to trial or settlement. His proven case record includes a record verdict in Essex County of $1.632 million in a medical malpractice case involving the wrongful prescribing and administering of the antipsychotic drug, perphenazine, which negligence resulted in his client developing an irreversible, painful and disfiguring neurological disorder, Tardive Dyskinesia; a $1.6 million settlement at mediation in a pedestrian vs. motor vehicle accident case; a $1 million settlement at mediation in a tractor-trailer accident case; an $800,000.00 settlement at mediation in a premises liability case; a $780,000.00 settlement in a medical malpractice case involving a physician's failure to diagnose autoimmune hepatitis, which negligence resulted in the development of cirrhosis of the liver and ultimately death; and many other verdicts and settlements totalling many millions of dollars. Paul's cases have been highlighted by local and national media outlets including the Wall Street Journal, CNN, The Washington Post, The Richmond Times-Dispatch, and Virginia Lawyer's Weekly. Paul was also included in Virginia Lawyer's Weekly "Largest Verdicts in Virginia" and in Virginia Lawyer's Weekly "Million Dollar Settlements".
Paul's very first case tried before a jury, just months after he became an attorney, was against a large defense contracting corporation which had been designing carbon fiber spokes for bicycles through its subsidiary corporation. It was proven at trial that the carbon fiber spokes had been defectively designed; that the corporate defendant had knowledge of the defect; and that it had failed to warn of the defect. It was shown that when one or more of the spokes loosened, the spokes would catastrophically fail, which happened to Paul's client, who was severely injured while competing in a triathalon in the Bahamas. Paul has devoted his career to helping those who have been damaged by the negligence or breaches of others, whether in the personal injury context or as a result of a business or commercial dispute.
Paul is a Richmond, Virginia native. After receiving his B.A. in Economics and Business from the Virginia Military Institute, Paul received his J.D. from the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of RIchmond. In his free time Paul enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, kayaking and riding his motorcycle. Paul is also an avid squash player and regulary competes in tournaments. Paul's family has several pets, including their two dogs, Moe and Daisy. In 2007, Paul took his love for animals and agreed to act pro bono on behalf of several concerned animal welfare organizations and filed an amici curiae brief on their behalf in the Michael Vick dogfighting case,
U.S.A. v. Michael Vick, requesting that the subject dogs be rehabilitated at the expense of Mr. Vick rather than euthanized. As a result, many of the dogs were saved and went on to live happy and healthy lives, free from the brutality they had experienced.
